He had a shed at the back of the house (2 Hawthorn Grove, Rodley, Leeds) where he made many wooden items and was a skilled carpenter. Stephen Pick remembers staying with him.
Photo in Yorkshire Post May 15 1943 receiving long service medal at Smiths where he worked for 54 years.
